InterAction for Health and Human Rights warmly congratulates Alastair Lawrie on his selection as a Justice Fellow for 2025 by the Law and Justice Foundation of NSW. This prestigious recognition is a testament to Alastair’s enduring commitment to equity, dignity, and the advancement of human rights through law reform.

As Director of Policy and Advocacy at the Justice and Equity Centre, Alastair has been a driving force behind anti-discrimination law reform in New South Wales for nearly a decade. His career spans public service roles in the Victorian government, federal politics, and the not-for-profit sector, alongside a longstanding dedication to LGBTQI+ health and rights through volunteer advocacy.

We are especially proud to support Alastair’s fellowship project, which will focus on strengthening legal protections for children born with variations of sex characteristics. By examining legislative models in the ACT and overseas, Alastair aims to help shape a best practice framework for NSW that affirms bodily autonomy and ends non-consensual medical interventions on intersex children.

Alastair said that he is “looking forward to the opportunity of investigating what a best practice NSW legislative approach to protecting children born with variations of sex characteristics against non-consenting medical interventions looks like.”

This work aligns deeply with InterAction’s mission to uphold the health and human rights of all people, especially those whose voices have historically been marginalised. We are thrilled to see Alastair’s leadership and vision recognised through the Justice Fellowship, and we look forward to the impact his research will have on shaping a more just and inclusive future.

Congratulations, Alastair on your selection as a Justice Fellow in 2025!
