Express interest in InterMission retreat for advocates, 14-16 August, SE Queensland

InterAction has been awarded a one-off grant to hold a weekend community event focused on advocacy!

Advocacy can take many forms: advocating for your own needs, advocating for family members, and advocating for people with your diagnosis, or for people with innate variations of sex characteristics as a population.

The event will be an ideal opportunity for folks to get involved in advocacy, and for folks providing advocacy to get community connected. We know that this has important benefits for policy work, as well as for personal safety, support and resilience. 

Plans for the event include discussions on:

• the political landscape
• experiences of engaging with politicians in Victoria and elsewhere
• understanding the roles of federal and state/territory government
• working with data and evidence
• telling personal stories, and managing disclosure, self care and mental health.

You can suggest additional ideas when you express interest in attending the event.

The conference will be over a weekend in beautiful Tamborine Mountain, in South East Queensland. The venue is an hour away from Gold Coast Airport (OOL). The dates are Friday 14 August to Sunday 16 August 2026.

We don't want low income to be a barrier to participation.

Accommodation is fully funded. Shared and individual rooms are available.

All meals will be included, from afternoon tea on Friday to lunch on Sunday. If you require additional snacks or treats, please bring them with you!

We have some funding available to support Australian-resident people on low incomes to get to the event. Please let us know on the expression of interest form if you need funding to help get you to the event.

Please also let us know if you can support other people to come. This might involve sharing a car, or donating to support other people.

We need to acknowledge that our funding is limited and we may not be able to approve every EOI. We will let people know as soon as possible after the closing date if we can accommodate you at InterMission.
