Derek Tys

InterLink Mental Health Practitioner

Derek is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and therapist with a deep commitment to supporting individuals through trauma, grief, and the search for meaning. His practice is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and a belief in the transformative power of insight even in the face of long-held pain. Drawing on a diverse range of therapeutic modalities including EMDR, Flash Technique, and PBSP (an attachment-repair method championed by Bessel van der Kolk in The Body Keeps the Score), Derek helps clients reconnect with their sense of self-worth and emotional resilience. He also incorporates Transpersonal, Jungian, Art Therapy, and Sandplay approaches to explore identity, existence, and the deeper layers of human experience.

Derek has a particular interest in working with intersex individuals and those navigating complex journeys to heal trauma. He offers a safe, affirming space to explore the impacts of trauma, societal expectations, and the search for authenticity. His practice honors the unique challenges and strengths that come with living outside binary norms, and he approaches each person’s story with respect and openness.
