Submission to inquiry on intentional self-harm in children
Following a meeting between Megan Mitchell, the National Children's Commissioner, and Morgan Carpenter, yesterday, we have made a late submission to the National Children's Commissioner inquiry on intentional self-harm and suicidal behaviour in children.
The Australian Human Rights Commission describes the inquiry as follows:
The National Children’s Commissioner is examining how children and young people under 18 years can be better protected from intentional self-harm and suicidal behaviour.
This examination will involve a review of current research, targeted consultations and roundtables with experts, and hearing from children and young people.
On 22 April 2014, a Call for Submissions was released. The Call for Submissions has now closed.
Findings will be reported in the National Children’s Commissioner’s 2014 Statutory Report to Parliament.
The 2013 Children's Rights Report unfortunately went to press just as the Senate inquiry report on involuntary or coerced sterilisation was published. We hope that the health and wellbeing of intersex children will be discussed in this year's report.
