IHRA has made a formal submission responding to an ACT government options paper that proposes a legal framework to protect infants, children, adolescents and adults from harmful practices in medical settings, recognition of the rights to bodily integrity and to access treatment.
In January, IHRA made a submission to the ACT government in response to its discussion paper on prohibiting deferrable medical interventions on intersex people. Our submission was written by Morgan Carpenter and endorsed by Intersex Peer Support Australia and the Intersex Trust of Aotearoa New Zealand. Drafting gave us an opportunity to identify and set out a shared vision for law reform.
Anick talks in a series of video and audio features with the BBC about his life, meeting other intersex people and his final surgery. Anick and Morgan (IHRA) were also interviewed by RightsInfo.
We have made a fourth submission to the Senate Inquiry on involuntary or coerced sterilisation. It follows a submission by the Australasian Paediatric Endocrine Group, a feature article in The Age, and new developments in Europe and the US.

Our Australian staff and board live and work on First Nations lands. We recognise that sovereignty over this land was never ceded and that this always was and always will be Aboriginal land. We acknowledge the continued connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to land, waterways and community and pay our respects to all First Nations people.
