OII Australia opposes the use of violence, threats or personal insults as a way of pursuing objectives. OII Australia has a duty of care towards its members, and will not knowingly put members in a position where they might become subject to such behaviour.

OII Australia strongly supports the use of collaboration and dialogue as the best way of engaging the community and those in power who are in a position to bring about the changes we seek.

We will vigorously state our case when we believe that it is necessary, but we accept that we will not always agree with others, whether they are activists, collaborators, politicians or the general public. In these circumstances, we consider that the best position is to respectfully agree to disagree.

Acknowledgement of Country
Our Australian staff and board live and work on First Nations lands. We recognise that sovereignty over this land was never ceded and that this always was and always will be Aboriginal land. We acknowledge the continued connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to land, waterways and community and pay our respects to all First Nations people.
